Optical Engineer

Southfield, Michigan – Movement Search & Delivery   www.movementsearch.com/jobs   is working with an international, tier-one automotive supplier. Due to their recent growth, they have opened a Lead Optical Engineer.

What you will do: The Lead Optical Engineer analyzes, clarifies, and defines the lighting requirements with the customer based on the existing specifications and existing CAD data in coordination with involved parties. The role estimates the required lighting development resources and costs in consultation with the involved parties, creates appropriate schedules taking into account the overall schedule for a development project, and provides designed optical geometries of lighting components for the design and external parties. The position plans/creates the computer-aided design and calculation of geometries for optical components, conducts computer-aided design (CAD/CAL) simulations for development projects, and plans/implements internal and external approvals for optical components as part of international development projects, while also tracking agreed project objectives in terms of quality, cost and schedules for the development of optical components. Additionally, the Lead Optical Engineer analyzes/evaluates new lighting requirements of customers in collaboration with involved parties, informs pre-development and other involved parties of customers’ lighting requirements, and ensures that defined lighting standards are met in series development.

What you will need: BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or Optics. Current product development/design experience in automotive exterior lighting. Working knowledge of computer-aided lighting design and simulation software. Experience in design of complex optics in CAD software, preferably with a working knowledge of CATIA V5. Understanding of light measurement systems; automotive exterior lighting systems preferred. Working knowledge of lighting metrics and terminology. Familiarity with government automotive regulations.
