Movement Expands Headquarters Again, Signs Multi-Year Lease Agreement in Historic Clarkston Mills

Movement Search & Delivery, a professional headhunting firm with global reach, will be expanding their operation to the upper level of the main entrance of the historic Clarkston Mills complex in Downtown Clarkston to meet the needs of their business that will house over 35 employees in a single location, making them one of the largest recruitment operations in the United States. The company has experienced vigorous growth since its inception less than three years ago.

Movement is renovating the new space by stripping away the interior façade to expose it to its original state from almost 80 years ago. “We peeled off an old, outdated drop ceiling and we weren’t sure what to expect.” Said Doug Scott, General Manager, “We were thrilled to find this wonderfully preserved wooden post and beam vaulted ceiling with massive steel girders spanning the entire space giving it tons of character. The building, now a business mall, was originally a hydro-powered automotive parts factory built by Henry Ford as part of his rural manufacturing project he began in the 1920’s.” Movement’s interior design will honor the building’s industrial heritage while integrating a very contemporary, open, loft-style office space that inspires collaboration and creativity for their associates. Scott comments, “We have some fun decorating ideas up our sleeve. By nature, our business is pretty intense and difficult but from the beginning we have always branded Movement in a whimsical way. We are very serious and dedicated to the work that we do, but we never take ourselves too seriously. That culture is in Movement’s DNA.”

“When we took possession of 4400 square feet a couple of years ago, we thought we would never need that much space.” Scott adds, “Right now, we can’t hire the additional people that we need to service our clients because we literally have nowhere else to put them. Expanding to the upper level on the Washington Street entrance will allow us to hire 15 additional Headhunters and Support Specialists as we continue to grow all of our industry and specialization verticals.” In the past year, Movement has added staff that is fully dedicated to providing contract staffing services. They currently have over 20 billable consultants on site at their clients providing high-end professional and engineering services. The firm has recently entered into the information technology solutions market and now provides IT professionals to their clients on a contract, direct-hire or project- solutions basis. Along with adding staff to these new lines of business, Movement continues to hire recruitment professionals for their well-established automotive and national capital equipment practices. Movement recruits for nearly every professional discipline.

The expansion is expected to be completed before the end of 2012 and there are already plans for a 2nd phase renovation to integrate the upper and lower levels of Movement’s headquarters in the future. Once completed, Movement will occupy over 8400 square feet of the Clarkston Mills building and employ over 45 associates in Clarkston and the headquarters will support over 100 full time consultants working on site at their clients located throughout SE Michigan and other regions in the US.
